NEAR NORTHSIDE
The Near Northside was selected as one of two Pilot GO Neighborhoods communities in 2009, with Avenue CDC as convening agency. With a focus on engaging the community broadly, encouraging and supporting resident leadership, dreaming big, and including all, GO Neighborhoods is bringing Near Northsiders together to create and implement their own organic vision for a thriving neighborhood. The community has completed two comprehensive plans including the Near Northside Quality of Life Agreement (QLA) and the Near Northside QLA 2.0.
After 10 years in the program, Near Northside, is becoming a mentor neighborhood. The neighborhood is now a best practice, both on the capacity built at the Convening Agency and the array of community initiatives and projects that have been implemented through the Quality of Life Agreement work. Near Northside is a collaborative and inclusive effort to use the strengths of a community in creating effective partnerships and creative problem solving.

Near Northside parents, children, and youth will live in a safe and supportive community, with an outstanding educational system and access to support services and programs to foster lifelong success.

The Near Northside wants to provide a supportive and encouraging environment where the neighborhoods’ youth can flourish and be safe both inside and outside of school through programs, resources and the opportunities they need to be leaders of the community and work on transforming the community with volunteering and service.
Family Income and Wealth
The Near Northside envisions being a community rich with opportunities, services and resources to grow the wealth of neighborhood families and support their financial well-being and ability to thrive.
Health
Near Northside is working to be a healthy community where everyone has access to healthcare resources, healthy nutrition and active health styles.

Near Northside is working towards a high quality housing stock, where affordable housing and housing-related services meet the diverse needs of current and future residents.

Convening Agency
Avenue is a builder of homes and a builder of communities in Houston, Texas. We make smart investments in people and places that promote vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods and strengthen our city. They believe in the power of place.
Using a place-based approach, AVENUE works directly with residents to identify needs, develop consensus on a vision for the future, and create action plans to get there. They build affordable housing, provide education and counseling to help families build wealth, and support communities in achieving the goals they set for themselves, in education, infrastructure, public safety, health, and more
